Monroe Public Safety Director Keith Glass that MPD K-9 Gabber died yesterday after a brief illness. Glass released the passing of Gabber in a brief statement Friday.
“It’s with a heavy heart that I share the loss of MPD K9 Gabber, after a short training period yesterday Gabber became ill and was rushed to Monroe Animal Care Hospital where he was treated then transported to East Metro Animal Emergency Clinic in Covington, where the decision was made to transport Gabber to the UGA Emergency Vet Clinic in Athens where everything humanly possible was done to save this heroic K9. After several conversations with the attending Vet, I made the only decision I could, at approximately 11pm last night K9 Gabbers tour of duty with MPD ended. While his tour of duty was short is was noteworthy as indicate by his deployment and training record. RIP Gabber“
