MPD Reports: Armed robbery, burglary reports, several cited for congregating in large groups

The City of Monroe reported the following incidents for the period April 9 -16, 2020. Due to the length, this report has been split into five parts. This is the first part. Please note an arrest or charge does not constitute a conviction.

  • Other Law – S. Broad St.; SSMHP: In reference to subjects riding dirt bikes in the park. Situation mediated. 
  • Other Law – W. Spring St.; Burger King: In reference to an issue with the food.
  • Damage to Property – Alcovy St. – Complainant called in reference to a golf ball striking his vehicle as he was driving down Alcovy St. causing damage to his hood and windshield. Report taken.
  • Dispute – Douglas St.: In reference to four females arguing. Other parties gone on arrival, situation mediated.
  • Robbery – Hill St. In reference to Armed Robbery and Aggravated Assault. Suspects fled in a silver Toyota or Nissan with black finder and broken driver side window. Criminal Investigation Division responded.
  • Burglary in progress – Mill Stone Bluff. Dispatched to a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, contact was made with four juveniles, 3 males and 1 female. They were inside a vacant apartment. Upon questioning, they stated there was a fifth juvenile who was gone on arrival. All juveniles were turned over to parents/guardians.
  • Fight – Douglas St. Several juveniles on location in a physical altercation. Several persons cited for Disorderly conduct. All persons were reminded of the shelter in place order and all questions from those present were answered.
  • Fight – Douglas St. Caller advised that kids were fighting again and that a female was waving a gun around. Several more people were cited for disorderly, and advised to return to their homes.
  • Fight, Shots fired – N. Broad St. Several males on location in a fight. During the altercation, one male fired a shot.
  • Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Walter Key in connection with the fight/shooting. 
  • Counterfeit – W. Spring St. In reference to the complainant having a counterfeit bill. She stated she received it when she cashed a check at WalMart Money Center. Bill taken into evidence.

Comments: Several calls and complaints regarding large groups and fights on Douglas St. and in Heritage Trace. 

  • Burglary – E. Tall Oaks.; Forced entry was made to the front door of the residence. The homeowner stated no items were taken. 
  • Fight – Douglas St. Area searched. Negative contact. Re-occurring issue throughout the night.
  • Burglary in progress – E. Tall Oaks; All subjects in the area stated they did not call 911 and that their residences had not been burglarized.
  • Suspicious person – Gliding Ln. The caller has diminished capacity. Stated they believed people were trying to gain entry to the residence. Advised increased patrols in area.
  • Unknown – Mill Stone Bluff. Female called requesting police then hung up. Upon arrival, no one would come to the door. Dispatch called the female back and she stated everything was ok and then hung up. Attempted to call again but no one would answer or come to the door.
  • Suspicious person – Walton Truck Stop. In reference to a subject on location driving a scooter without a license. His scooter was towed and he was criminally trespassed. Samuel had valid felony warrants out of Walton County Sheriff’s Office but they refused to place a hold.
  • Burglary Report – Valero E. Spring St. Upon arrival, staff noted damage to the back door. Upon entry and review of camera footage, it confirmed that a burglary occurred. Staff were advised to contact MPD upon completion of the inventory.
  • Suspicious person – Tall Oaks Dr. Ref to a b/m that was laying down on the sidewalk in the area. The man stated he fell but was OK. Was headed to Lacy St. Declined assistance.
  • Theft report – Ridge Rd. Skyline Trace Office. Ref to a vacant apartment that had the patio door shattered. Report Taken.
  • Welfare check – Tall Oaks West. Spoke to the complainant in Florida who advised her brother takes medication and does not answer the phone. Neighbor will have the brother contact his sister when he gets up. All ok.
