MPD Reports: Assault investigation after victim is struck on back of head on Highway 78

The City of Monroe Police Department reported the following incidents for the period Nov. 7 – 14, 2019. Due to the length, this report was split into five parts. This is the second part. Please note an arrest or charge does not constitute a conviction.

  • Suspicious Vehicle – Charlotte Rowell/Hwy 78. Driver was sleeping at the red light. Officer made contact and it was determined the driver was sleepy and not under the influence. Driver was given a ride to their residence 
  • Dispute – E. Spring St. – Sherwin-Williams in reference to an officer being flagged down by a tow truck driver who was being followed. Complainant advised he repossessed a vehicle from Monroe Estates and was followed by the owner. Situation was mediated. All okay.
  • Dispute – Atha St. in reference Two subjects disputing over property and residence access. Parties mediated and advised of civil remedies.
  • Extra Patrol – Taylor’s Wrecker Service in reference to someone threatening to break into the business
  • Extra patrol request on Holly Hill Road in reference to a maroon Nissan Extra with “For Sale” written on the rear driver side window occupied by multiple subjects going door to door trying to sell cleaning products. Complaint advised the persons claimed to represent the company Kirby but could not present any credentials.
  • Animal Complaint – W. Spring St. – Goody’s in reference to two K9’s in a vehicle with the window cracked open. Upon arrival, circumstances with the truck and camper appeared suspicious. Officer made contact with one of the owners. Owner was lectured about keeping valuables locked up and out of site and was informed about the open container law. All okay.
  • Follow Up – Bryant Rd.- In reference to a painted phrase on the back door of the residence.
  • Shoplifting – W. Spring St. – Beautyville in reference to a subject shoplifting hair products. Subject was fingerprinted and released on copy of citation.
  • Suspicious Vehicle – Walton Street. Officer flagged down in reference to a vehicle in the driveway of the residence under construction. Vehicle was gone on arrival. Residence cleared and it did not appear anyone had been inside.
  • DOA – Tanglewood Lane in reference to 32-year-old being discovered deceased by his roommate, possible medical issues. Criminal Investigation Division was notified (which is standard procedure) and scene was turned over to coroner.
  • Assault – W. Spring St. – Piedmont Walton. Subject was struck with an unknown object on the back of his head earlier this date on Hwy 78 WB near Hwy 138. Criminal Investigation Division was notified.
  • Animal Complaint – Turner St. in reference to complainant advising subject was being physically abusive to his canine outside. Made contact with subject and observed the canine. Canine was unharmed and happy.
  • Suspicious Vehicle – on Hwy 11 NB approaching Monroe in reference to a GMC Envoy swerving. Vehicle was stopped on Hwy 11 at Highland Ave and contact was made with the driver. He was cited for violation of DUI permit.
