MPD Reports: Domestic dispute, sexual assault and explicit video circulated

The City of Monroe Police Department reported the following incidents for the period July 12 – 18, 2019. Due to the length, this report has been split up into five parts. This is the third part. Please note an arrest or charge does not constitute a conviction.

  • Illegal Parking – GW Carver; Numerous subjects were disputing over vehicles blocking parking spaces. Situation mediated. Parties separated. 
  • Dispute – Atha St. Complainant and Jeffrey Griffith were involved in a domestic dispute. During the dispute Mr. Griffith broke complainants’ phone as she was trying to call 911. He then struck her multiple times with a closed fist. This act took place in front of their children. Mr. Griffith was gone when officers arrived. Warrants were taken for battery family violence, interference with 911 call and two counts of cruelty to children in the third degree. Mr. Griffith was arrested by Rockdale County later in the night due to having an active warrant out of Walton County.
  • Dispute – Birch St. Complainant stated that subject told him she didn’t want him living there anymore. Complainant advised he had been drinking and couldn’t drive so he was waiting on a ride. He wanted to let Police know what was taking place. It was explained to the complainant that he did not have to leave. He stated he understood but wanted to. All was ok.
  • Officer Assist – Da Grand. Officer working side job advised a driver had struck multiple vehicles as well as pedestrians. Officer was able to stop the vehicle. GSP was notified and worked the scene. Suspects were transported by Monroe Police to Walton County Jail for GSP.
  • Shoplifting – Walmart. The subject was caught by management shoplifting. Management advised they did not wish to press charges but wanted him escorted out of the store. Subject was sent on his way.
  • Shoplifting – Walmart. Subject was arrested for stealing multiple items totaling $27.69. He was transported to Monroe Police Department fingerprinted and released on a copy of citation.
  • Agency Assist – Piedmont Walton. GSP requested assistance due to a subject they had in custody not cooperating with staff. Officer stood by with GSP until the subject cooperated.
  • Theft – Maple St.: Complainant wanted to report his money was missing on the 2nd of July. A report was done case number was assigned. The complainant was given a card with the case number on it.
  • Sexual Assault – Cook Pl. in reference to complainant stating her 10-year-old daughter was sexually assaulted by subject at some time during the night of last date. Turned over to Criminal Investigation Division.
  • Domestic Dispute – Plaza Dr. – In reference to subject biting complainants’ finger during a domestic dispute. Warrant to be taken for aggravated battery.
  • Theft – MLK JR. Blvd. Clerk stated a male attempted to purchase a pack of Sea Pods. They cost $14.97 and he gave the clerk $10.00. The male then slipped the product in his back pocket and left the store. The clerk stated he did wish to press charges. Report Taken.
  • Dispute – Plaza Dr. Caller advised that a male was on location and that police were looking for him due to warrants. Conducted an area check was unable to locate the male.
  • Fight – Lacy St. Caller stated thirty to forty subjects fighting in the street. Upon Officer arrival, nobody was fighting. Subjects in the area stated all parties involved were gone on arrival.
  • Dispute – W. 5th. Two subjects in the roadway, having a loud dispute. They both denied anything physical, one of the subjects went and stayed with a neighbor, report taken.
  • Old Mill Pt; Complainant and subject were involved in a dispute over complainant sending sexually explicit videos of subject to other people. During the dispute, subject struck complainants’ vehicle with a stick and cut one of his tires. The subject was arrested for criminal trespass Family Violence Act.
  • Dispute – Walmart in reference to four subjects in front of the store in a verbal argument. Upon Officer arrival, all subjects were gone on arrival.
  • Meet with Officer – W. Spring St. – Piedmont Walton in reference to the subject. Hospital Staff wanted her escorted off the property. She was taken to 3450 Old Monroe Madison Hwy.
  • Meet with Officer – N. Broad St. – Valero in reference to subject disputing with Jay’s over ownership of a vehicle. All was ok.
  • Burglary – Tanglewood Dr. Negative on Burglary. Subject was issued a criminal trespass warning.
  • Warrant Service – S. Madison Ave. – Southeast Corrections. Shevanda Thurmond on location with an active warrant from Gwinnett. She was taken into custody and transported to the Walton Jail.
  • Scam Report – E. Church St. Complainant advised he had received several calls from scammers claiming to need money from his social security. He was advised of remedies.
  • Shoplifting – W. Spring St. – Family Dollar in reference to a W/M stealing food items and fleeing on a bike towards Highland Ave. Report declined.
