MPD Reports: Hit and run; pedestrian accident; report of shots fired was just a foot race

The City of Monroe Police Department reported the following incidents for the period Feb. 27 to March 5, 2020. Due to the length, this report has been split into five parts. This is the second part. Please note an arrest or charge does not constitute a conviction.

  • Hit&Run – Mayfield Dr/ North Broad. Red Ford F-150 struck complainants vehicle continued north on Broad. Area checked, negative contact with pickup. 
  • Suspicious Person – Holly Hill Road. Subject on location attempting to open house door. Subject appeared to have dementia and was picked up by family.
  • Suspicious Person – W. Spring Street – In reference to subject, sitting behind the nail salon. Subject advised that he was homeless, but would find somewhere else to go.
  • Juvenile Complaint – Gatewood Dr. – In reference to juvenile not obeying his grandmother and wants to run away. Juvenile is autistic and was just having an episode.
  • Suspicious Person – W. Spring St. – Walmart. Subject on location walking around. He was told to leave and did so.
  • Shoplifting – MLK Blvd – Femail subject was caught trying to shoplift beer from the gas station. Because she is only 16, she was not taken to jail, but was advised not to come back to this gas station again.
  • Shots Fired – Mill Stone Bluff in reference to a group of subjects in the street arguing. Upon Officer arrival contact was made with multiple subjects who were having foot races in the street. No shots were fired and nobody was fighting.
  • Juvenile Complaint – Store House Court – In reference to complainant finding a 17-year-old male subject in her 15-year-old daughter’s room. Report taken.
  • Suspicious Vehicle – MLK- Anytime Fitness in reference to a dark colored Chevrolet driving around the building. Contact made and parties were advised to stop driving around businesses.
  • Damage to Property – N. Wayne St. Complainants’ vehicle was damaged while she was at work. Report taken.
  • Dispute – Wall St. – Complainant, reported that subject had been drinking and was trying to fight her and was arguing with his girlfriend. Subject advised he wasn’t trying to fight anyone but only trying to leave. Parties agreed to get along for the remainder of the night.
  • Suspicious Person – Hammond Park. Two parties found at Hammond Park. Walter Clark was issued citation for Marijuana less than one ounce.
  • Suspicious Person – W. Spring St; McDonald’s. Subject hanging around at Harry’s Marathon and possibly Waffle House. Subject was warned of loitering charge and future consequences.
  • Accident With Pedestrian – Custom Way, In reference to a vehicle striking the complainant on 02/28/2020. Report taken.
  • Meet with Officer – E Spring St. Subject was asking about homeless shelters.
  • Wanted Person – Hwy 11 – Windstream in reference to Barrow County Sheriff’s Office having a subject with Failure to Appear warrant. The subject was transported to the Jail without incident.
  • Loitering – E. Spring St. Subject was transported to the Waffle House to wait on a ride. Lost Property – Ash Ln. Lost cell phone at Walmart. Report taken.
  • Dispute – N. Broad St. – J&B Food Mart in reference to an unknown black male taking 100 packs of Blunt Life Incense. Shoplifting report made.
