MPD reports: Hwy 78 wrongway driver arrested for DUI; man threatening to jump off Hwy 11 bridge; other mental health related issues

The City of Monroe Police Department reported the following incidents for the period Sept. 19 – 26, 2024. Due to the length, this report has been split into five parts. This is the third part. Please note an arrest or charge does not constitute a conviction.

• DUI/Arrest – Hwy 78 @ N. Broad St.- Subject was observed driving westbound in the eastbound lanes on Hwy 78. Gwinnett PD Officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver was taken into custody for driving under the influence, failure to maintain lane and driving on the wrong side of the roadway.
• Mental Health- Mountain View Dr – Subject requesting medical services, turned over to EMS
• Loud Music – Pine Ridge Villas. In reference to loud music in the area. Area checked, negative contact with any loud music or noise.
• Fight – Lacy St – In reference to an anonymous complainant advising of an active fight. Area checked, negative contact.
• Suspicious Vehicle- Barrett St – In reference to observing a white SUV, stopped in the roadway, behind the Mill. The vehicle’s passenger door was open, and subject was walking back to the vehicle from the wood line. He advised that he had been chasing deer.
• Suspicious Person – E Spring St; Short Stop. In reference to a male subject urinating in public at a 24/7 gas station. Albert was issued a citation for 62-1; Disorderly Conduct and sent on his way. Report taken
• Dispute – E Marable St; Matthews Park – In reference to a dispute between two female subject over pavilions in the park for parties. Remedies advised. All OK on location.
• Fireworks – Lawrence St. – In reference to individuals setting off fireworks in the street nearby. Negative contact.
• Suspicious Vehicle – E Spring at Lumpkin – in reference to a truck parked on Lumpkin St while the City was trying to close the street for an event. The owner was located.
• Damage To Property – Bryant Road – In reference to a plastic chain being broken overnight in the area of the truck driving school. Report taken.
• Gas leak- E Spring Street – in reference to a gas leak in the building. Turned over to Fire Department.
• Suspicious Person – E Spring St at Felker St. – In reference to a male subject walking around the area for approximately one hour. All OK on location.
• Juvenile Complaint – Oak St – In reference to juvenile leaving his residence on foot and walking to his Grandmother’s house. Juvenile is not allowed to be on location. He returned home with his guardian. All OK on location.
• Vehicle Unlock – N Midland Ave – Vehicle unlocked, no damage.
• Other Law – 140 Blaine St; MPD – In reference to subject needing an impound form signed to retrieve her vehicle from Taylor’s Wrecker. Her vehicle insurance was verified and the impound form was signed.
• Property Damage – West Spring Street in reference to someone who keyed the complainant’s vehicle.
• Suspicious Vehicle – E Church St.- In reference to an individual parking an ATV on location and leaving it for approximately two hours. The owner returned and retrieved the ATV. All okay.
• Traffic Stop/Agency Assist – Hwy 78/Hwy 138 – In reference to stopping a vehicle involved in a hit and run in the County.
• Traffic Stop – East Marable/Glenn Iris – Male subject arrested and released on a copy of the citation for driving on a suspended license.
• Civil Issue – Horizon Ct. – In reference to subject wanting his truck back, complainant does not think it is a good idea, but advised she will turn it over to him and his neighbors. Subject’s driver’s license is revoked. Remedies advised.
• Civil Issue – Horizon Ct – In reference to a dispute over a vehicle that occurred in the county. Remedies advised.
• Mental Health- E Spring St- In reference to subject hearing things coming from the car wash. Advice given.
• Traffic Stop/DUI -Hwy 78 W @ N. Broad St – Vehicle was involved in a hit and run in Walton County Sheriff’s Office jurisdiction. Vehicle was stopped for FTML. The driver was taken into custody for DUI-Combo, FTML and driving without a valid license.
• Suspicious Vehicle -E Spring / N Midland – In reference to a possible intoxicated drive. The vehicle, a Dodge pickup truck, was located; no traffic infractions were observed. All ok.
• Suspicious Person – Overlook Crest – In reference to an unknown subject knocking on the complaints front door. Area checked, negative contact.
• Traffic Stop/Foot Pursuit – N Broad St; Monroe Food – Vehicle was stopped for an equipment violation. The subject fled the traffic stop, and after a brief pursuit, he was taken into custody. He had active warrants out of Jenkins County and was charged with obstruction, driving while license suspended, open container, DUI alcohol and no insurance.
• Accident – W Spring St; Wendy’s. Two vehicles, no injuries. Parties on location denied a Police report to be made.
• Vehicle Unlock – Towler St; – Vehicle unlocked, no damage.
• Suspicious Person – MLK Jr. Blvd. – In reference to an unruly customer on location. Subject was issued a notice of prohibited entry for the location and sent on his way. Report taken.
• Juvenile Complaint – Harry’s Marathon – In reference to multiple juveniles on location and employees requesting them to leave. All ok.
• Suicide Threats – N Broad St Bridge – In reference to subject making threats to jump off the Hwy 11 bridge. Subject was located and transported to Piedmont Walton. He was 1013 in lieu of charges. Report taken.
