MPD Reports: Officer hit with mirror from fleeing vehicle; son threatens mom with knife

The City of Monroe Police Department reported the following incidents for the period May 8 – 15, 2019. Due to the length, this report has been split into five parts. This is the fourth part. Please note an arrest or charge does not constitute a conviction.

  • Shoplifting – W. Spring St. – Walmart. Subject was arrested for shoplifting. She was fingerprinted and released on copy of the citation.
  • Juvenile Complaint Store House Ct. in reference to juvenile running away from home. His mother advised she located multiple items that she suspects are stolen. Property was taken to the PD and added into evidence.
  • Dispute – Norris St. Michael Fillingim became angry at his mother over her shutting a door on a drop cord. Michael grabbed a large knife and pointed it at her. When Officer arrived, Michael grabbed his mother and pushed her into the residence. Michael was taken into custody for Simple Battery (Family Violence) and Aggravated Assault. He was fingerprinted at MPD and released to Walton County Sheriff’s Office.
  • Welfare Check – Hill St. in reference to checking on indiviual. She was found deceased. Turned over to Criminal Investigation Division and the Walton County Coroner. (Update: This was designated a death as a result of natural causes according to MPD).
  • License/safety check point at Breedlove and Alcovy. Approximately 115 vehicles checked, 2 citations issued.
  • Burglary Report – Roosevelt St. – Complainant stated unknown individuals forced entry into his residence and ransacked the living room and bedroom.  Report taken.
  • Follow up – Roosevelt St. While attempting to locate the second party to above dispute, Mr. Sherwood Vinson, was observed driving on Roosevelt Street.  He accelerated through where two officers were attempting to stop him, striking one officer with a mirror from his vehicle. Residence and surrounding area searched with negative contact. Vehicle was located at 516 Hill Street and impounded by Jay’s. Warrant to be taken.
  • EMS assist-priority one/unknown in the area of Perry St. and Green St. Ref to someone passed out in the yard and unresponsive. The subject was arrested for public intoxication (.40) and released to the jail after clearing from the hospital.
  • Theft – Bold Spring Rd. – In reference to a stolen wallet this morning at Walmart.
  • Juvenile Complaint – Oak St. in reference to juvenile causing damage and running away. Met with mother and son at Cook Street. Mother stated son threw a chair at her bedroom window. Juvenile complaint filed.
  • Burglary – Walker Dr: Complainant came home and discovered her front door was opened. Wanted a report done for document purposes. Report Taken.
  • Wanted Person -N. Broad/ Tyler St. Unit flagged down and advised that Shellie Trantham was in the parking lot in a black Honda. Contact was made with Shellie who had an active warrant. She was arrested and transported to Walton County Sheriff’s Office without incident.
  • Shoplifting – W. Spring St. Jays Beauty: Victim stated that two black women took some items from the store without paying for them. Report Taken.
