MPD Reports: Suicide; woman attempts to steal more than $3,600 worth of items from Walmart; Juveniles misbehaving

The City of Monroe Police Department reported the following incidents for the period Aug. 15 – 22, 2024. Due to the length, this report has been split into five parts. This is the fourth part. Please note an arrest or charge does not constitute a conviction.

• Suspicious Vehicle – Dunkin Doughnuts – In reference to a sprinter van parked on location for an extended period of time. Contact made with the owner and he moved it at the property manager’s request.
• Burglary Attempt – N Midland Ave – In reference to screen door being broken and the shed lock being broken. CID was made aware. Report taken.
• Warrant Attempt – Carwood Dr – Attempt to locate a named female subject, she was later located on Booth Dr and taken into custody.
• Juvenile Complaint – E Church St.; Pilot Park – In reference to six juveniles causing a disturbance and using foul language within earshot of other individuals and children. Upon arrival no disturbance or foul language was seen or heard. Juveniles were spoken with and City Ordinance 62-4(a)(2) was explained. They agreed to not use foul language around others in the park.
• Suicide/DOA – Stonecreek Way – In reference to grandson locating his grandfather deceased inside the residence. Deceased was located with a gunshot wound to the head. On-call CID was notified and responded to the scene along with crime scene and the Walton Co. Coroner. Report taken.
• Dispute – GW Carver Dr – Parents on location due to multiple children around the age of 8 years not getting along. Both parties come to a mutual agreement for their children to get along all ok.
• Shoplifting – Johns Supermarket- In reference to an unknown white male taking items from the store. Before officers arrived on scene, the male shoved the complainant and fled the store on a bicycle, the male was not located. Video footage obtained.
• Traffic Stop/Arrest – Pine Park St/Davis St- Subject stopped for a traffic violation. Subject was taken into custody for reckless stunt driving and DUI alcohol. Vehicle turned over to Taylor’s and the subject was turned over to Alton County Sheriff’s Office.
• Suspicious Vehicle – Mathews Park – Two subjects on location sleeping in a vehicle. Advised to relocate as the park is closed after dark. All okay.
• Suspicious Person – E Marable and N Midland – Namedsubject observed walking through a yard with an active warrant for his arrest. Taken into custody without incident.
• Unsecured Premise – W. Spring St.; Truist Bank – In reference to an unsecured premise, the utility/power supply room/closet in the back of the building was not secure. The door was closed and it was locked. Spoke to an employee on scene, all okay.
• Suspicious Vehicle – Hwy 78 & Charlotte Rowell – WCSO advised of a red passenger car, failing to maintain lane and the driver falling asleep at the wheel. Contact made with the driver on Charlotte Rowell Blvd and the subject was arrested for DUI-Drugs. Vehicle towed by Taylors.
• Traffic Blocked – Sorrells & Maple Ln – In reference to an anonymous complainant stating a construction company had a lane of travel blocked with no signs up on the curve at Maple ln and Sorrells. A company was pouring concrete on the sidewalk at the apartments at Cook Street, the lane was blocked off by orange cones, not in the curve. Traffic was moving appropriately to this.
• Theft – West Spring Street; Walmart – in reference to a white female attempted to steal over $3,600 worth of items on 08/10/2024.
• Juvenile Compliant – Pilot Park.In reference to three juveniles on location causing a disturbance. Contact was made and remedies were advised. All ok.
• Loud Music/Dispute – Tanglewood Ln; – Complainant called in reference to loud music from her neighbor. It was determined that complainant called in reference to a dispute that occurred. Civil remedies were advised. Officer responded a second time shortly after leaving the original call.
• Suspicious Person/Drug Arrest – S Madison Ave at Davis St: Subject was stopped due to matching the description of a shoplifting suspect from a previous call for service. The subject was found to be in Possession of Methamphetamines, and DRO and arrested.
• Dispute – South Broad Street – In reference to a female subject arriving on location attempting to take her child. An open DFACS case is in place and they were notified. A safety plan was put in place. All ok.
• Suspicious Person/Arrest – Pine Park St – In reference to a named being observed matching the description of a subject involved in a theft, the last date at John’s Supermarket. The subject was wearing the same clothes as the last date in the video footage. He attempted to flee when he observed officers but was quickly located and taken into custody. He was fingerprinted at MPD and transported to WCSO.
