MPD Reports: YouTubers setting up pranks around Monroe; drag racing; domestic disputes

The City of Monroe Police Department reported the following incidents for the period Aug. 15 – 22, 2024. Due to the length, this report has been split into five parts. This is the first part. Please note an arrest or charge does not constitute a conviction.

• Traffic Stop – N Broad St and Matson Food Mart – Subject arrested and released on a copy of the citation for driving while license suspended.
• Fraud – West Spring Street in reference to an ex-employees forged two customer checks to his name and will not give them a check from a customer.
• Custody Dispute – Lacy St. – In reference to a custody dispute, negative contact and dispatch attempted to call back and it went to voice mail twice. Went back to the complainant, spoke to the complainant and then went to subject house and spoke to her. Remedies advised, Report taken.
• Dispute – Elm Drive – In reference to two parties disputing. Complainant accused subject of breaking her door, it was determined by her husband to be previous damage.
• Dispute – 3rd St – In reference to complainant reporting her niece was in possession of her K9 and was not returning it. A phone conversation was later held with niece who stated she took the K9 into her care upon complainant going to the hospital approximately a month prior. The K9 reportedly had many health issues, and the niece took it upon herself to ensure the K9 received proper care. Civil remedies advised.
• Suspicious Person – Tigers Way – In reference to an unknown black male, pretending to be a pest control service, for his Youtube channel. The male subject was wearing a Tyvex suit and spraying the yard, using a backpack sprayer. Two other males were in the white passenger car filming the interaction. Subjects were gone when officers arrived. Report taken.
• Suspicious vehicle – Pine Park St and Lacy St – In reference to vehicles drag racing in the area. Negative contact upon arrival.
• Dispute – S Broad / E Washington St – In reference to a group of juveniles making threats to fight. Area was checked on foot; contact was made with groups of juveniles walking in the area. No fight was observed.
• Juvenile Complaint – S Broad St; Art Guild – In reference to multiple juveniles in the area causing a disturbance. Contact was made with juveniles throughout various areas downtown and advised to relocate.
• Suspicious Person – White Oak Dr – In reference to the complainant reporting the same suspicious activity as listed in a previous call. The suspects were located and identified. It was advised that they have a Youtube channel, where they conduct and post pranks on people. They were advised of the seriousness of their actions and were very apologetic. They were advised that if further incidents where to be reported, they would be charged with loitering. Report taken.
• Traffic Stop/Arrest – W Spring / White Oak Ln – In reference to a white Hyundai Elantra being observed driving on the median on W Spring St, and almost striking another vehicle. Traffic stop conducted, and contact was made with the driver. He was found to be operating the vehicle without a license. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Monroe Police Department; where he was fingerprinted and released on copy of citation. Report taken.
• Disturbing the Peace -Sorrells St – In reference to an anonymous complainant stating subjects were in the area being loud. Area checked, negative contact.
• Dispute -Monroe Motor Inn – In reference to theft of prescription medication. Follow-up interviews were conducted with suspects. Report taken.
• Disturbing the Peace – Sorrells – 2nd call in reference to an anonymous complainant stating subjects were in the area being loud. Area checked, negative contact.
• Suspicious Person -Felker Park – In reference to subject on location sleeping at the picnic tables. Subject was advised of park hours, and he stated he did not have anywhere to go. Subject was given a ride to Waffle House and advised of remedies.
