New teen book club to meet in Monroe Saturday

The Monroe -Walton Center for the Arts is hosting two monthly Book Clubs, one for Adults and one for Teen Readers. The first one for teens is this Saturday, hosted by author Beth Dawkins. Beth is young and in touch with what teens like.
“Beth is young and in touch with what teen like,” said Barbara Barth with the Monroe-Walton Center for the Arts. “She picked the first book The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater, book 1 of 4 in the Raven Cycle series.”

On her website, the author gives a brief description of the book. “An unlikely group stumbles across ancient magic in Virginia: Blue, the daughter of the town psychic in Henrietta, Virginia, who has been told for as long as she can remember that if she ever kisses her true love, he will die. Gansey, who seeks the Welsh magic he believes saved his life. Adam, who searches for a way out of the circumstances he was born into. Ronan, who seeks to recover the magic of his childhood.”
The book is available on Kindle https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0096T5P7O  or you can check the local library. While highly recommended, you do not have to read the book to join in the conversation. Visit the author’s web http://www.maggiestiefvater.com/the-raven-boys/ .
“There will be a copy of the book at the event if anyone wants to look at it. May have a drawing to give it away,” Barth said. “It is more a discussion about the book and a small reading from it. More a social event to highlight fun with reading. Teens do not need to buy a book or have read it. It is more of an introduction to reading. There will be pizza!”

When and where: Saturday from 1 – 3 p.m. at the Monroe-Walton Center for the Arts, 205 S Broad St., Monroe, GA
