Obituary and funeral service: Eugene ‘Gene’ William Pope, 83, of Monroe

Eugene (Gene) William Pope, age 83 of Monroe, passed away on June 29, 2019. He was born in Meigs, GA on May 19, 1936, to the late Walter Pope and the late Ida Belle Howell Pope.

Surviving are, Wife, Dorothy Jernigan Pope of Monroe; Daughters and Sons in Law, Sherri and Buddy Russell of Loganville, Gina and Rick Gelinas of Monroe, Daphne and Ellis McGeorge of Loganville; Sister, Carolyn Clark of Eufaula, AL; Brothers, Earle Pope of Phenix City, AL, Larry Pope of Beaumont, TX; Grandchildren, Emilee Russell, Andrew Gelinas, Hope Johnson, and Dillon McGeorge; Great Grandchildren, Lilly Johnson and Vann Johnson.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, July 3rd at the 1025 Church with the Rev. Tommy Fountain and the Rev. Jimmy Greer officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Wednesday, July 3rd, preceding the memorial service at 12:00 pm at the 1025 Church.

Mr. Gene Pope loved his family and his church. He has served his Lord and church faithfully since he gave his life to the Lord as a young husband and father in the early sixties. He was a charter member of 1025 Church (formerly Grace Baptist Monroe). Having a servant’s heart, he served in many ministries within the church throughout his life. He served as a Deacon faithfully. He also loved the outdoors; especially fishing and golfing. He was dearly loved by his family and church. He will be deeply missed.
