JoAn H. McWaters, of Monroe, GA, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 86 after a valiant battle with cancer. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, August 27, 2026 in the Loganville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home with Dr. Richard Long officiating. The family will receive friends 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM prior to the service. JoAn was born in Redan, GA on May 5, 1940 to William Robert Higginbotham and Gladys Virginia (Phipps) Higginbotham.
She graduated from Lithonia High School in 1958. In 1959, she married her high school sweetheart, Donald McWaters, and went on to have one child, Andrea Dawn. JoAn worked as a secretary for BF Goodrich prior to retiring. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, JoAn found joy in sewing, gardening, bird watching and reading. After retirement, she enjoyed tending to their farm and attending numerous sporting events to cheer on her grandkids and then great grandkids. In recent years, she was thrilled to travel with her daughter to see new and exciting places.
JoAn was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Donald Walter McWaters; son-in-law, Anthony Eugene (Tony) Weatherford, and her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Andrea M. Weatherford of Monroe, GA; grandchildren, Anthony Weatherford, Jr. and Amanda Puckett Weatherford of Monroe, GA, Andrew Weatherford of Lander, WY; great grandchildren, Anthony Eugene (Tripp) Weatherford, III and Adeline Rae Weatherford of Monroe, GA; sisters, Sandra (Mason) McConnell and Joyce Berger, both of Stone Mountain, GA; sisters-in-law, Joyce Johnson of Alpharetta, GA, Gwen (JD) Boozer, Janice (Paul) Wall all of Monroe, GA, Rhonda (Ben) Duren of Eatonton, GA; brother-in-law, Benny (Theresa) McWaters of Covington, GA; numerous nieces and nephews.
