Linda Joyce Samples Johnson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and faithful daughter of the Lord, passed away July 8, 2026 surrounded in love with her family.
Joyce was born September 19, 1941 in Rosebud, Georgia, to Charles Espy Samples and Liddie Jo Cain Samples. She graduated from Stone Mountain High School and married her high school sweetheart, James William Johnson Sr., on December 4, 1959. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, love, and devotion. Over the years, Joyce made her home in Stone Mountain, Lilburn, Snellville, and later retired to Jersey, Georgia.
Joyce was a dedicated wife and loving mother who gave generously of her time and talents to her church and to those around her. She loved her family deeply and found great joy in gathering everyone together. Family meals, birthdays, and holidays were among her favorite occasions, and she was known for always setting a beautiful and welcoming table. Her home reflected her heart: warm, thoughtful, faithful, and full of love.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Espy Samples and Liddie Jo Cain Samples. She is survived by her husband, James William Johnson Sr.; her children, James William Johnson Jr. and wife Darlene, Timothy Charles Johnson and wife Amy, and Christopher Brian Johnson and wife Teresa; her grandchildren, Cody Johnson, Hunter Johnson and wife Ashlynn, Travis Johnson, Lorrie Chandler and husband Luke, Warren Johnson, Victoria Johnson, and Sarah Johnson; and her great-grandchildren, Kathryn Ivy Johnson, Maxen River Johnson, Savannah Johnson, Levi Chandler, and Lainey Chandler. She is also survived by her brothers, Jerry Samples and wife Dorothy, and David Samples and wife Jeanie; her sister, Marie Fazette; as well as countless nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who loved her dearly. Joyce’s legacy is one of faith, family, service, and love. She will be remembered for the care she gave, the meals she shared, the celebrations she made special, and the steadfast love she poured into her family throughout her life.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 in the Loganville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home with Pastor Rando Acres officiating. Interment will follow at Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery, 1310 Harmony Church Road, Monroe. The family will receive friends 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Monday, July 13, 2026 at Tim Stewart Funeral Home, 670 Tom Brewer Road, Loganville, Georgia 30052, 770-466-1544.
