Rachel Barrett Murdock, age 95, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away February 14, 2021. Mrs. Murdock was born March 20, 1925 in Clover, York County, South Carolina to Hugh David Barrett and Elizabeth D. Clinton. She moved to Social Circle, Georgia with her parents in 1930, was graduated from Social Circle High School, attended the Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, Georgia and the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia.
She loved to tease and joke and was full of life. She loved her family and her friends, but most of all she loved children, especially her children. They were her life’s work, always volunteering, as Sunday school teacher, as Cub Scout Den Mother, or Blue Bird assistant leader, or fundraiser for the North Fulton Special Choir, anything her children needed her to do, she did. She also worked at Rich’s, later Macy’s, for over twenty years. She was an extraordinary sales person. She accomplished so much in her life.
Rachel Barrett Murdock, is survived by her three children: Charles Andrew Murdock (Maryna), David Harlin Murdock, and Ann Murdock Small (Robert); her grandchildren: Nathan A. Kleinschmidt (Meredith); Robert Murdock Small; Natalie Rachel Murdock; her great grandchildren: Jana Kleinschmidt and Paul Kleinschmidt; her sister, Lantie Barrett Gibbs and her husband, Lawrence T. Gibbs; and her many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and great, great nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Charles Harlin Murdock; her brother, Arnold Lankford Barrett of Webster, North Carolina; her sister, Mabel Elizabeth Barrett of Atlanta, Georgia; her daughter-in-law, Zola D. Murdock of Marietta, Georgia; her sister-in-law, Sarah Margaret Barrett of Webster, North Carolina; her sister-in-law, Bunny J. Buck of Houston, Texas; her brother in law, Robert E. Murdock of Encinitas, California; her sister-in-law, Norma J. Axmacher of Belleville, Illinois, and her parents, Hugh David Barrett and Elizabeth D. Clinton of Social Circle, Georgia.
There will be a memorial service at Peachtree Road Methodist Church, 3180 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30305 on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Wellroot Family Services (wellroot.org) formerly the Methodist Children’s Home, a ministry of the United Methodist Church in North Georgia or Peachtree Road United Methodist Church.
