Obituary and funeral service: Sandra A. Zauche, 76, of Monroe

Sandra A. Zauche, 76, of Monroe, GA, passed away Monday, August 31st.

Born in Springfield, MA, as the first of five siblings, Sandy attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and had started high school, when she moved with her family to Bangor, ME. The next move two years later found her in Limestone, ME, attending Limestone High School. Here she led the life of a typical high school girl participating in many school activities, along with her many friends and leading to her being voted Most Popular her senior year. Then shortly after graduation and continuing the trend of moving northward, Sandy moved once again with her family to Goose Air Force Base, Goose Bay, Labrador, Canada, where she started her career as a secretary/stenographer for the U.S. Air Force. However, not content with living on an isolated air force base in the extremes of the Labrador winter and wanting to gain her independence, she moved back to Springfield, MA, to continue her career at Westover AFB. Three years later, when the family returned from Canada to settle in Stone Mountain, GA, Sandy moved southward to be closer to them. While still working for the federal government in the Atlanta area, she decided to spread her wings once again and accepted a position at Clark Air Force Base, on Luzon Island, Philippines. Though this was a time of excitement and new discoveries for her, it was here that Sandy’s life changed drastically as a result of developing a condition which prevented her from continuing her career. And upon returning to the Atlanta area, she received a full disability retirement from the U.S. Government. Although she was no longer able to work at a professional level, Sandy filled her days as an office volunteer at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Stone Mountain, GA. After her dad passed and her mother was no longer able to drive, Sandy and her mom developed a very close relationship and became each other’s care giver, which lasted until her mother passed.

Sandy’s love for others knew no bounds. Everyone she met was greeted with an enthusiastic Hi! She was the sweetest, kindest and gentlest soul in our family and we will miss her.

Surviving her are siblings, Stephen Zauche of Woodstock, David Zauche of Jasper, Brian Zauche of Cumming and Irene Parker of Monroe; along with several nieces, nephews, and a grandnephew.
