Obituary and funeral service: Vincent Herman McCormack, 85, of Loganville

Vincent Herman McCormack, age 86 of Loganville, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2021. A Memorial Mass will be held at 2:30 PM on Friday, February 12, 2021 at St. Oliver Plunkett Catholic Church in Snellville. Father Daniel R. Toof will serve as Celebrant. Inurnment will follow at St. Oliver Catholic Church Columbarium. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:30 PM at St. Oliver’s prior to the service.

Vince was born on April 5, 1934 in Vicksburg, MS as one of nine children born to the late Jack and Alma McCormack. He graduated from St. Joseph High in Jackson, MS before joining the United States Army and was stationed in Japan during the Korean Conflict. Vince graduated from Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS with a degree in Forestry. He got a job with the U.S. Forest Service and started out stationed in Holly Springs, MS, where he met Shirley Whiteside and was married in 1961. Over the years, Mr. McCormack was stationed in Laurel, MS, Hillsboro, GA, and Chatsworth, GA, where three of his children were also born. When he transferred to Gainesville, GA, he worked as an appraiser and took many land appraisal classes. Mr. McCormack then transferred to the Ocala National Forest in Eustis, FL where his fourth child was born, and then on to Tallahassee, FL. In 1985, Vince was transferred to the Regional Office in Atlanta where he did land appraisals all over the US, Puerto Rico, and spent the summer of ‘85 in the Tahoe area of CA appraising summer home sites. In 1994, Vince retired from the U.S. Forest Service with 39 years of service. In 2005, Vince and Shirley sold their home in Stone Mountain and moved to Loganville to spend more time with their children.

Vince was a member of St. Anna’s Catholic Church in Monroe. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley McCormack; children, Vincent L. & Lynn McCormack of Barnesville, Shirley “Shan” McCormack Fitzpatrick of Loganville, Angela Marie McCormack of Athens, Steven I. & Christy McCormack of Snellville; grandchildren, Kyle & Audrey Beckman, Melissa & Mike Bristol, Kelly Fitzpatrick, Shannon Fitzpatrick, Cassidy Fitzpatrick, Aidan, Madeleine, Caleb, Ava & Catherine McCormack; great grandchildren, Kylie Beckman & Leland Bristol; siblings, Joseph McCormack of Brandon, MS, William F. “Bill” McCormack of Madison, MS, Rosemary Harkins of Clinton, MS, and Kay Foshee of Brandon, MS. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Oliver Plunkett Catholic Church, 3200 Brooks Drive, Snellville, GA 30078; St. Anna’s Catholic Church, 1401 Alcovy Street, Monroe, GA 30655; St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 801 Tom Smith Road, Lilburn, GA 30047; or Loganville First United Methodist Church, 221 Main Street, Loganville, GA 30052.
