Carolyn Duncan O’Leary, 76, passed away suddenly but peacefully at her Monroe home Friday, September 7, 2018. Born on August 10, 1942 in Cumberland, Maryland, she graduated in 1960 from Boone High School in Orlando, Florida. She was married to the love of her life, Ed O’Leary, for over 56 years. They moved several times throughout the years living in New Jersey, Massachusetts, Florida, Tennessee, and Georgia. They have been residents of The Providence Club of Monroe for eighteen years where she served on various boards and committees and was actively involved in neighborhood social clubs.
Carolyn enjoyed playing bridge, volunteering at St. Anna’s Catholic Church on Tuesday mornings, and being a member of the Ladies of the Knights of Columbus. Her favorite pastime was traveling. Carolyn and Ed traveled to four continents and numerous foreign countries, but her favorite memories were traveling throughout America visiting all fifty states.
She will best be remembered as a loving and faithful wife to Ed, a doting mother to her two children, and the greatest O’Ma that ever lived to her five grandchildren. Nothing gave her greater joy than being a grandmother.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Pauline Duncan (1999) and Freeman Duncan (2001) of Florida, and her sister Dianne Klingensmith (2018) of Arizona.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Edward, her son Daniel O’Leary (Patricia) and daughter Wendy O’Leary Spangler (Gregory), her 5 grandchildren; Allison Spangler, Kevin O’Leary, Julie Spangler, Courtney O’Leary and Jennifer Spangler, her aunt Jennie Lee Thomas (Kenneth), and many nieces and nephews.
Her life will be celebrated on Friday, September 14th, 1:00pm, at a Mass held at St. Anna’s Catholic Church, 1401 Alcovy St., Monroe, GA. A reception will immediately follow in the fellowship hall at the church.
Those wishing, in lieu of flowers, may make a charitable contribution in Carolyn’s memory to MD Anderson Cancer Center (http://www.mdanderson.org/
