Obituary and funeral services: Doug Heeter, 45, of Monroe

Doug Heeter, age 45 of Monroe, Georgia, passed away after an extended battle with illness. Doug was preceded in death by his mother, Bonnie Heeter. He is survived by his father, William “Rick” Heeter; brother, William “Brad” (Darla) Heeter; his nephews, William “Nicholas” and Matthew “Elliott” Heeter; and nieces, Jacq Whitmer and Julia Whitmer. 

He was born in Joplin, Missouri, on August 25, 1975, to Bonnie & Rick Heeter and moved to Georgia with his family in 1987. He joined the Georgia Army National Guard, in 1997, and attained the rank of Sergeant (E-5). He spent time in Kuwait mobilized in communications. He also served on the Honor Guard and became driver to commanding General. After 15 years of service to his Country, he was medically discharged, after suffering a back injury. 

He also worked at BlueLinx building products, in the moulding and sales department. He loved and enjoyed his dogs, watching and feeding birds on his feeders, just outside his window. Watching the Braves and Georgia football sports brought him great joy. 

Being an “Old-Soul” at heart, he enjoyed collecting generational old memorabilia, baseball cards, political buttons and anything from the past. 

A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens, Snellville, GA. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society
