Obituary and funeral services: Harold Platt Hill, Jr., ‘Hidy’ of Monroe, formerly of Grayson

Harold Platt Hill, Jr., “Hidy” passed away on November 15, 2019, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with leukemia. He was born on September 9, 1940, in Greenville, South Carolina to Harold P. Hill, Sr. and Inez Hill. He was a devoted husband for 56 years to Rachel Hill. Although two people, they always operated as one. Rarely did you see one without the other. His pride and joy were always, “his three redheads,” his daughters, LeAnne (Brent) Stromwall, Marsi (Larry) Briggs, Missi (Ron) Rich and later in life came a special son of the heart, Thad (Raquel) Lanier. Harold was a father figure to his niece and nephew, Miranda (Yaggi) Rodak and Chip Yaggi, and very close to his sister-in-law, Sarah Yaggi-Smith. Harold is also survived by his two siblings, Bennett (Hahn) Hill and Sarah McKinley as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Harold proudly served in the Navy before he started a 30-year career as an airline machinist at Delta Airlines. He also owned his own lawnmower repair business after his retirement from Delta. Harold was a humble man, helping others and being with family defined his life. While he loved to tinker with his hands, he also loved to travel. He and Rachel traveled to most all of the 50 states in their motorhome. They loved to share the adventures with the grandkids, Sawyer and Hudson Stromwall, Benjamin and Caroline Briggs, Trevor and Grant Rich, Lainey and Beckett Lanier. He and Rachel hosted 18 exchange students and traveled to see many of them in their home countries. He and Rachel were pillars in the Grayson community before moving to Monroe in 2006. Mostly known for his quiet demeanor, Harold also had a mischievous streak that we will always love and miss.
