James Robert Almond was born in Bryson City on April 5, 1930, and sadly passed away on 9/18/18
at the age of 88 years old. There will be Memorial Service at 11 a.m. on Oct. 20, 2018 at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home.
He was one of 4 sons raised by Gove & Ethel Almond. He grew up in Bryson City, North Carolina. He played football at Swain County HS where his nickname there was ” the little Choo- Choo”!
He married Frances Bowman in 1948 when he relocated to Detroit, Michigan.
Later He moved to Georgia & lived over 60 years in Decatur, Ga. He recently moved to an Assisted Living facility in Monroe, Ga where he passed away suddenly on 9/18/18.
He will always be remembered for his lifelong passion for the University of Georgia’s Football team. He was our personal Top Dawg. He was a good, kind, and loving husband, father, and Pap-paw.
He was preceded in death by wife, Frances Bowman Almond, his parents & 3 brothers. He is Survived by daughters Linda Johns, (Donald), Debbie Horlock (John), Pam Castro, and Kimberly Gaisford. He left behind 9 grandchildren & 16 Great-grandchildren.
