Obituary and Funeral Services: Joan S. Holmes, 84, of Loganville

Joan Sikes Holmes, age 84 of Loganville, Georgia passed away suddenly Thursday, December 6, 2018. Mrs. Holmes was preceded in death by spouse, James Walter Holmes and parents Eule Eugene Sikes and Ellie Jane Reynolds Sikes. She is survived by children, Kathy and Wayne Broadhead of Jesup, Jimmy and Gayle Holmes of Conyers and David and Cindy Holmes of Loganville. She is survived by her 8 grandchildren, Josh Raines, Matthew Raines, Trae Holmes, Kristina Shadden, Michele Raines, Susanne Bell, Melissa Gibson and Jamie Holmes along with 18 great-grandchildren. She is survived by one sister, Jeannette and Bill Deaton of Snellville.

Joan was a native of Decatur, Georgia. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia on December 22, 1933. She attended Decatur Girls High School and graduated in 1951. She fell in love with the love of her life, Walter, when she was 16. She was very active and served as GA director, Sunday School teacher, sang in choir and held office in the Women’s Missionary Union at Peachcrest Baptist Church in Decatur for years. She served in the PTA and volunteered in her children’s schools. She was a loving wife, Mother and was best known as “Granny” to all that knew her.

The Funeral Service to honor and celebrate the life of Joan S. Holmes will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel. Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens, Snellville, GA. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 9, 2018 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and also Tuesday, December 11, 2018 from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
