Mary Louise Cofer Stark, age 83, of Monroe, GA (formerly of Lawrenceville) passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Homer M. Stark; children, Hope (Jim) Strozinsky, Susan (Chris) Pendleton, and Benton (Michelle) Stark; grandchildren, Jenny Strozinsky, Amy Strozinsky, Sara Pendleton, Adam Pendleton, Aspen Stark, and Sierra Stark.
Mary Louise grew up in Tucker, GA and spent much of her childhood there working in the family business, Cofer Brothers. She graduated with an English degree from Duke University and received her masters from Yale University Drama School. She was a founder of the Gwinnett Council of the Arts as well as an advocate and lobbied to fund arts programs in schools. She served as a past president of the Georgia Citizens for the Arts and volunteered for the Atlanta Children’s Theatre where she received great joy watching children perform. Mary was also a member of Southern Order of Storytellers and was a former board member of the Gwinnett Foundation. She served as a docent for the Georgia Museum of Art and was an Elder and Liturgist in the Presbyterian Church.
A funeral service honoring the life of Mary Louise was held on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 10:00 am at Fairview Presbyterian Church with Pastor Rob Sparks IV officiating. Interment followed at Fairview Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family received friends on Wednesday, July 25th from 4:00pm-7:00pm at Tom M. Wages Lawrenceville Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Fairview Presbyterian Church, Fairview Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund, or the Georgia Museum of Art.
