Obituary and funeral services: Robert ‘Harry’ Hodges, Jr., 89, of Conyers

Robert Harry Hodges, Jr. age 89, of Conyers, died on February 27, 2018. He was born to the late Robert Harry Hodges Sr. and the late Eunice Gouge Hodges on October 8, 1928, in Gadsdan, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his son, the late Robert Harry (Bob) Hodges, III.

Shortly after his birth the family moved to Loganville, Georgia, where he grew up and attended Loganville High School, North Georgia College and the University of Georgia where he graduated in 1949. He was a member of the ROTC in college and entered the army as 2nd Lieutenant.

Shortly after he graduated he met his wife Lillian Hodges while serving in the Army at Fort Hood in Texas. They married on December 10, 1954 and moved back to Georgia.

Harry went to work for Walton-Monroe Mills where he was the Fiber Buyer. He was an avid golfer and loved all sports, especially UGA football. Harry loved to tell stories, ninety percent of them were TRUE and ten percent of the stories were embellished.

He loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved being around them and watching their activities as they grew up.

He had an amazing smile, never met a stranger and loved the Varsity, Bar-B Que, and especially ice cream.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian Dornbusch Hodges of Conyers, daughters and son in law, Rebecca Adcock of Monroe, Helen and Arnie Parker of Monroe; sons and daughters in law, Dr. Dan and Marsha Hodges of Monroe, Jim and Laurie Hodges of Royston; brother, Morgan Hodges of Loganville; 10 grandchildren; Jenny Mitchell, Brittany Hodges, Laura Gay, Kellie Doster, Trey Hodges, Haley Reynolds, Daniel Hodges, Aaron Hodges, Thomas Hodges, Madlen Hodges and 4 great grandchildren; Beau Mitchell, Emmie Mitchell, Ella Kate Gay and Clayton Gay.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 3rd, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Conyers Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kevin Hicks officiating. Interment will follow at Loganville City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to Conyers Presbyterian Church at 911 N. Main St. Conyers, GA 30012 or to the Abby Hospice Foundation at PO Box 68, Social Circle, GA 30025.
