Obituary and funeral services: Tommy Stringer, 78, of Loganville

Celebration of Life will be at Loganville High School on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018
Tommy Stringer, of Loganville, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the age of 78. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at the Loganville High School Gymnasium. Minister Harold Savage will officiate. Interment will be held at 12 PM CST on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Salem Church of Christ Cemetery in Highland Home, Alabama.
Tommy was the former football coach and Athletic Director at Loganville High School. He dedicated 55 years of his life to education and coaching. After starting his career in Alabama, he moved to Georgia and coached at Baker High School and Hardaway High School in Columbus, GA. In 1977, he and his family moved to Atlanta where he coached at Druid Hills High School and Clarkston High School in DeKalb County. Coach Stringer ended his educational and coaching career in Walton County at Loganville High School. He retired as the Athletic Director of Loganville High School in 2016. He also served as a member of the Georgia High School Association Board of Trustees. Recently, Tommy was selected to serve as the District #1 Commissioner of Walton County. He had received numerous coaching awards and honors throughout his career and will be inducted into the Georgia Athletic Directors Association Hall of Fame in March 2018.
Tommy was a member of the Snellville Church of Christ and is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sybil F. Stringer; daughter Suzanne and her husband Mike Houser of Grayson, GA; grandson Chip Tyndale of Brooklyn, NY; grandson Matt Tyndale and his wife Lisa Pan of Madison, WI; brother Samuel B. Stringer and his wife Regina of Montgomery, AL; brother Johnny Ray Stringer and his wife Susan of Prattville, AL; sister Faye Mosley of Auburn, AL; brother-in-law C.J. Faulk and his wife Betty of Honoraville, AL; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday, February 19, 2018 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Tim Stewart Funeral Home, 670 Tom Brewer Road, Loganville, GA 30052. 770-466-1544.
