Dr. Carvin C. Moreland, age 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday May 21, 2019 in Watkinsville, Georgia. He was born on December 6, 1931 in Hiawassee, Georgia to Dean Moreland and Dora Dayton Moreland. He served in the military during the Korean War, and was a skilled marksman, a Sharp Shooter. He was a graduate of Towns County High School, North Georgia College (1954), Medical College of Georgia (1959), and was an intern at Spartanburg General in Spartanburg, SC (1959-1960).
Dr. Moreland established a private practice in Monroe, Georgia (1960-2013). During his career, he was a member of the Walton County Board of Public Health, provided General Anesthesia, general and GYN surgery, obstetrics, was a Preceptor for MCG and Mercer Medical Schools, Director of Emergency Medical Services for Walton Medical Center, Chief of Staff, Walton Medical Center, a Georgia State Medical Examiner, Member of the Walton County Hospital Board of Authority, and a Legislator, Georgia House of Representatives.
Among his memberships: The American Medical Association, the Medical Association of Georgia, the Georgia Academy of Family Practice, the American College of Physician Executives, the American Health Information Management, the American Hospital Association, and the Better Business Bureau.
Dr. Moreland is survived by his wife, Mary Kaye Moreland, four children, CJ Moreland (Kayron), Theresa Moreland, Cynthia Moreland (Ed), Jeffrey Moreland; two grandchildren, Michelle Hughes and Jack Moreland (Laura); one great-granddaughter McKenzie Hughes; two stepchildren, Rick Morse (Courtney) and Leigh Morse Looney (Kelson); and two step-grandchildren Sophia Morse and Tripp Looney, as well as many other members of a large family.
Dr. Moreland loved sports, especially the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves, and was very loving and supportive of his relatives and friends. But mainly, he loved to work and to help everyone around him to have a better life. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
Visitation was at Meadows Funeral Home, Thursday, May 23, 2019, with services at 11:00 in the Meadows Chapel. Interment immediately followed at Rest Haven Cemetery.
