Obituary: Eileen Swope, 81, of Monroe – formerly of Saxton, PA

Eileen Swope went to be with her Redeemer, Jesus, on December 5th, 2020. Her husband, her children, and everyone who met Eileen loved her. She was the best wife any man could hope for and best mother any child could ever have. Her family surrounded her to sing as she went to see Jesus, sobbing for her departure and rejoicing for her home-going.

Eileen was born Virginia Eileen Hall in Beavertown, Pennsylvania, on March 15th, 1939, to the late Helen Imler and James Hall. She married William Swope on May 20th, 1960, in Cumberland, Maryland. They spent most of their 60 years of married life in Saxton, PA, before moving to Georgia.

Eileen’s children are Teresa Johnson (CO),Tina Cooley (FL), Sally Brumbaugh (WV), William Swope Jr. (PA), Jeffrey Swope (PA), and Nathan Swope (GA). Eileen was also “Grammy” to 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her brothers Darrell Magruder and Kenneth Hall. Her siblings are Richard Hall, Ronald Magruder, Wilbur Imler, Mary Greenleaf, and Steve Imler.

Beyond caring for her own family, Eileen loved to serve other families by cooking, cleaning, and sewing for them. She regularly served in childcare at Summit Baptist Church, where she was a member for many years. Eileen never met a baby she couldn’t soothe, and she made all the neighborhood kids feel at home. Most of all, Eileen loved her husband and children.

She will forever be missed until we join her together in Heaven.

There will be a celebration of life at 2 p.m. Jan. 31 at Summit Baptist Church, 3080 Highway 81 in Loganville. There will be another one at the Farm in New Enterprise, PA, in June.
