Obituary: James Walter Muse, 91, of Loganville

James Walter Muse was born on July 13, 1935 in Crisfield, Maryland. The son of James Walker Muse and Ruth Schwatka Muse, James grew up in Arlington, Virginia, in a residence close to a fire station. He was intrigued by the working of the station and it was then that his dream of becoming a firefighter began. 

After his graduation from Washington-Lee High School, he worked for the United States Postal Service for three years before serving two years in the United States Army at Fort Rucker, Alabama. While he was serving his country, he was recruited by the Arlington County Fire Department. He started work as soon as his army service ended in June 1958. He steadily rose through the ranks to become a Captain. After fifteen years, he injured his back in the line of duty and was unfortunately unable to continue working for the fire department. In 1979, he started working for the US Department of the Army and traveling to many places, including Puerto Rico. He retired in 1994. After retiring, he enjoyed working in his flower garden and taking meticulous care of his roses, traveling with his wife across the country, and spending time with his beloved grandchildren. His greatest love besides his Heavenly Father was his family. 

He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Dorothy Rosenberger. He is survived by his wife of sixty seven years, Loretta Wood Muse; a daughter, Sharon E Sasser (Barry); son J. William Muse (Lashell); two granddaughters, Mandy Muse Williams (Zachary) and Samantha Morgan Sasser; and a great-grandson, James Wyatt Williams. He is also survived by a niece, Vicki Chaney (Russell) and two nephews, David Rosenberger (Claire) and Robert Rosenberger (Susan).
