Rex Jones of Loganville, Georgia passed away at the age of 84 on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 surrounded by his loved ones.
Born in Tellico Plains, Tennessee to Edward and Maude Jones, Rex was one of 11 children. A United States Navy veteran, he served from 1960 to 1964 on the USS Meredith. He loved to talk about his travels on the ship and the places in the world he was able to see during his service, everywhere from Rome, Italy to Cape Town, South Africa.
Rex was a proud father and grandfather. He enjoyed family dinners and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. If he wasn’t outside working in his yard, you could find him relaxing in his chair in the company of one of many beloved dogs over the years, most likely watching a Tennessee football game, Braves baseball, or a NASCAR race. He was also fond of reading novels and watching old westerns and war movies.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Chesley Jones and Stella Maude Jones, as well as his brothers Edward, Nolan, Virgil, and Jimmy, and sister Edith.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Jones; his four daughters, Tina (Larry) Johnson, Karen Jones, Vanessa Jones, and Valerie (Richard) Garner; his grandchildren, Elizabeth (Daniell) Richardson, Telisa Tumlin, Richard (Susie) Tumlin, Anthony Garner, Heather Jones, Alex Garner, Tiana Weaver, Dale (Abigail) Tumlin, Brandon Weaver, Alyssa Garner, and Trent Weaver; his great grandchildren, Bella and Mark, Presley and Caroline, Aden, Adam, Avery, Aaron, and Zander, Lily and Lilah, Ari and Eric, Everett and Violet, and Savannah; one great-great grandchild, Luke; as well as numerous other family members and loved ones.
