Obituary: Stephen Mark Menard, 58, of Covington

Stephen Mark Menard, age 58, of Covington, GA gained his heavenly wings and joined our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 3, 2020. Stephen was born on October 12, 1961, in Lowville, NY to the late Robert V. Menard and the late Betty Jean Rowe Medard. He is preceded in death by his loving sister, Susie Garland of Watertown, NY.

Stephen graduated high school in 1980 from Lowville Academy; he then moved to Arizona and found a passion working in a funeral home which led him to Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science to earn his Associate Degree of Funeral Directing and Embalming. He settled down in Monroe, GA to set up his roots working many years at Arthur Bowick Funeral Home. Years later he joined Kenneth Murray Properties and became Director of Maintenance at Park Place Nursing and Rehab for over 20 years, loving and caring for the elderly.

Stephen was a jack of all trades, a loving family man, he was a ray of sunshine, always had a smile on his face and a joke to make you laugh for hours. He was a staple in the community. He loved helping out whenever and where ever he could. His heart was big, he accepted and loved all he came across. You are considered lucky if he called up one of his “kids” or gave you a nickname. He had a passion or working with children with special needs and loved being the announcer at Joy Prom. He was a certified volunteer for the Newton County FFA and 4H program, helping students learn about raising livestock. He loved to bring in the barn with barn families. He also had a passion to sing, previously being a member of a good ‘ol southern gospel quartet and choir. He showed his talent and sang for the glory of the Lord. The last 12 years, Stephen was also known as “Steve, the only prisoner with a cell phone in jail” with WMOQ radio station. His motto was “Live every day as if it could be your last” and Stephen did just that. His legacy will live on!
