Fall is a great time to be in Walton County. It’s when just about every city in the county gets to celebrate the fall season in its traditional style – fall festivals. These began in Good Hope with the Poppy Festival and continue through October! There’s just no excuse for not being able to celebrate the fall season in Walton County. You may have missed the first one or two, but here is a line up of what’s left to ensure you don’t miss another. This weekend it is Monroe’s time to shine! Saturday begins with Paws in the Park and continues with the Monroe Fall Festival!
Oct. 14 – Monroe Fall Festival and Paws in the Park. Begin the day at Childers Park (next to the Monroe-Walton Library on Spring Street) for the 4th Paws in the Park event! The morning will begin with a 5k run and 2k dog walk. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at the park. The Pet Costume contest follows at 11 a.m. at the Historic Court House. This is followed by the Annual Fall Festival Downtown, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Families are invited to “enjoy the sights, sounds, food and activities of Downtown Monroe,” which include the annual Children’s Costume Contest at 1 p.m. at the Historic Court House. Prizes given for the best costume in each age group for the kids’ costume contest. Other children’s activities include Spider/Bungee Jump, Moonwalks, Obstacle Course, Giant Slide, Face Painting
Balloon Animals, Fire Trucks on display, Trackless Train Ride, Hay Ride, Rock Climbing Wall, Pumpkin Patch and Wacky Hair. The Farmers Market will be open for the final time for the season from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Oct. 21 – The City of Loganville’s 2017 AutumnFest will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The largest of the city’s events, the annual AutumnFest celebrates “what makes our community great: good food, great businesses and plenty of smiles – with some dancing mixed in for good measure.” Vendors line Main Street and the TownGreen and, in addition to vendors there is live entertainment and a kids zone. This year’s AutumnFest will be followed by a free concert at the Town Green beginning at 6 p.m. featuring the Journey cover band Departure.
