Overnight fire in Walton County causes major damage to home

(This has been updated to note that this home was in unincorporated Walton County. Social Circle Fire Department assisted in combatting the fire.)

Walton County Fire Rescue, with the assistance of Social Circle Fire Department, responded to a fire overnight that caused heavy damage to a home at 454 Ga. Highway 11 in Walton County overnight.

“Upon fire department arrival there was a heavy fire in a bedroom and in the attic of the house,” WCFR Battalion Chief Craig League said. “Firefighters were delayed from getting water to the fire by an out of service fire hydrant near the scene.”

League said the fire caused heavy damage to most of the home. The fire has displaced the single occupant of the home.

“Red Cross is providing assistance to that person,” League said.

The cause is undetermined at the this time, League said.
