Pedestrian injured when distracted driver runs into parked car

Georgia State Patrol report that a pedestrian received minor injuries Friday afternoon when she was hit by a parked vehicle that was forced onto the sidewalk after being struck by another vehicle in the Social Circle area of Walton County.

Trooper First Class Cal Barton of GSP said the Sarah Collins-Thomason, 32, of Conyers, was driving south on Ga. 11 in a 2015 Ford Edge when she became distracted by her child who was crying in the backseat.

“She took her eyes away from the roadway. (The vehicle) failed to maintain its lane and struck the rear of vehicle 2 with the right side,” Barton said. Vehicle 2 was a 2003 Chevrolet Blazer that was parked in a parking stall facing southwest off the shoulder of GA. 11. “Vehicle 2 was forced onto the sidewalk by the impact and struck the pedestrian.”

The pedestrian was Sandra Parillo, 61, of Conyers. Barton said she struck her head on the sidewalk when she fell, but the injuries were minor. She refused treatment and was not transported to the hospital. Collins Thomason was cited for failure to maintain lane and given a warning for distracted driver – must exercise due care.
