Piedmont Walton thanks community for supporting Annual Cookout for a Cause

Monroe, Ga. (Dec. 1, 2025) — Piedmont Walton Hospital is thanking the Walton County community for supporting its annual Cookout for a Cause, which raised more than $35,000 for the Piedmont Walton Breast Imaging Center.

Nearly 225 people attended the event, the proceeds of which will help with patient supplies, capital improvements, education and caregiver support at the center.

“We look forward to this event every year because it brings us together with our friends and neighbors to support healthcare in Walton County,” said Piedmont Walton CEO Blake Watts. “The incredible generosity of the attendees makes a real difference for patients and families in our community.”

The Piedmont Walton Breast Imaging Center, located in the Medical Office Building on the Piedmont Walton Campus at 2151B West Spring Street, Suite 160, opened in February, offering expanded access to breast health care for women in Walton County. The center provides screening and diagnostic mammography with same-day results, breast ultrasound, and will soon offer stereotactic breast biopsies and ultrasound-guided core biopsies.

“The center is convenient, easily accessible and fully equipped with the latest technology,” said Joey Vira, director of Radiology at Piedmont Walton. “Our goal was to create a comfortable, relaxed environment for patients while also ensuring they receive high-quality care.”

According to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women in the U.S. will develop breast cancer during their lifetime. Early detection through self-exams and annual screening mammograms is key to improving outcomes. Vira emphasized that most women diagnosed with breast cancer have no reported risk factors, making regular screenings essential for all women, especially those over age 40.
