Playoff season begins in Walton County Thursday

If the weather cooperates today, the 2017 Georgia High School Boys Baseball Championship playoffs will begin in Loganville with a double header between Loganville High School Red Devils and the Lithia Springs Lions. As Region 8-AAAAA winners, the red Devils have home team advantage with the teams set to take the field for the first game at 3 p.m. on April 27. The second game is scheduled for 6 p.m. and a third game, if necessary, will be played Friday at 6 p.m. Should the weather wash out any of the games, they will be pushed off to Friday, with a third game, if necessary, to be played on Saturday.

According to Maxpreps, the Lions come into the playoffs after taking 4th place in the region for the season, ranked 305 in the state and 8,400 nationally. The Red Devils, as well as taking the regional title, come into the opening round of the playoffs ranked 36th in the state and 656 nationally.

Two other teams in Walton County are also getting to see post season play. The Walnut Grove Warriors will travel to Decatur to take on the Bulldogs on Friday, April 28, for the first of two games to begin at 5 p.m. The second game will follow at 7 and, if necessary, a third game will be played on Saturday at 1 p.m. Click or tap here for a link to the Class AAAAA bracket.

George Walton Academy Bulldogs take on the Brookstone Cougars Friday in the opening round of Class A Private playoffs. The Bulldogs have home field advantage. Click or tap here for a link to the Private A Class bracket. The final is schedule to be played on May 25, 2017.
