Many from the local community, including from the courts and law enforcement, turned out Monday for the 2020 Grinched Golf Tournament in support of Project ReNeWal Domestic Violence Intervention Program. Project ReNeWal serves residents in Walton, Newton and Rockdale counties. Due to COVID-19, the annual Dancing with the Stars for Project ReNeWal could not take place so the golf tournament was an important fundraiser to help make up the shortfall. Sadly, the stresses of the pandemic combined with the increased risks for domestic violence victims that have come along with the shutdown has put extra pressure on organizations such as Project ReNeWal.
In the meantime, fun was had by those who offered their support by participating in the golf tournament.
The Walton County Domestic Violence Task Force also has stepped up in 2020 to assist in raising fund and awareness for this important resource in the community. The task force has three basic objectives.
- Provide up-to-date training for all county first responders. This training will meet the criteria for certification needed.
- Increase public awareness about the issue of domestic violence so citizens know how to recognize the signs and know how to safely and appropriately respond.
- Raise funds to support the above activities.
The task force is a 501c3 organization and all donations are tax-deductible. If you know of someone that is experiencing domestic violence, or if you are in a domestic violence situation, you can call Project Renewal at 770-860-1666.
