Scam Alert: WCSO warns of a new scam involving the chip on credit/debit cards

Scammers urge card holder to cut card in half and turn it to couriers

Walton County Sheriff’s Office shared a warning on its social media of a new scam involving a phone call from a scammer with an unusual request regarding their debit/credit card that had supposedly been compromised. The card holders were advised to cut the card in half, leaving the chip intact, and then turn it over to a courier who would stop by to pick it up. After doing this, the pieces of the card were picked up by the courier and subsequently attempted to be used.
