Second fatal shooting in as many nights on Tanglewood Drive in Monroe

Monroe Police Department report that a second person has died in Tanglewood in a shooting incident this weekend.

“At approximately 5:59 PM City of Monroe Police and Georgia State Patrol responded to a person shot and unresponsive call to 226 A Tanglewood Lane. Upon arrival, Officers found Shaun Barfield  33 years old of Monroe unresponsive, Barfield was pronounced dead at the scene by the Walton County Corners Office,” Monroe Public Safety Director Keith Glass said in a press release. “MPD Detectives, Agents of the GBI and Walton County District Attorney’s Office Investigators are working leads and processing the scene at this time.”

Glass said it has not determined at this time if this latest incident is in anyway related to the death of Darrin Bernard Barnes last night on Tanglewood Drive.

“Detectives and Agents are working several leads in this and the Barnes death investigation. We ask that anyone having information about either crime contact Det. Cannon at  or 770 -266 -5183  or the Athens Office of the GBI at 706-552-2309,” Glass said.
