Shepherd’s House hosted our annual back2school BOOK BAG & SUPPLIES GIVEAWAY on Saturday July 18, 2026 at the SH Community Center. The goal: help youth k-12 in our community start the school year strong!

“Hundreds of youth in our community received  free book bags stuffed with school supplies and the tools and needed to have a successful 2026-2027 school year. They also got a healthy dose of smiles  and encouragement. We know this annual event  helps ease some of the financial burden that families are experiencing as they prepare for the new school year too,” said Michael Reese, executive director and co- founder of Shepherd’s House.

A huge “Thank You” goes out to our community partners that made this year’s event so successful. It was  the generous support and effort of First African Baptist Church Monroe, Monroe Area High School, Walton County Soil & Water Conservation District, the Book Man of Monroe, Johns Supermarket,  the Monroe Police Department,   and the donations to Shepherd’s House inc.org.

It’s exciting,” said Gloria Reese.  “We distributed hundreds of book bags, books, school supplies like paper pencils rulers glue binders folders,   stuffed animals,  water cups, mpd bracelets, and conservation themed coloring books. To help attendees beat the heat we provided free water and cold treats. Vendors were also on site for families to purchase  snacks like cotton candy and snowballs. The response from the families who participated was so positive and thankful. Kids squealed with delight as they picked out their book bags and as volunteers filled the bags with much needed school  supplies.”

We couldn’t have done it without our amazing team  of volunteers. Over  38 adults and students from our partner organizations, along with community volunteers came out to assist with all aspects of the event, from handing out flyers in the community, event set up and of course distribution of the items. We are very appreciative to our neighbors in the community for their ongoing support of our mission. This is an annual event, held two weeks before school starts in Walton County.
