Walton County’s first brewery, the Southern Brewing Company, celebrated its Grand Opening with a street party on Nov. 22, a month after first opening the taps in Monroe. The Southern Brewing Company is located at 123 N. Lumpkin Street, next to the newly-opened Lane’s BBQ retail store.
Following the Ribbon Cutting, the street was closed down and live music was provided by the Matt Brantley Band, Georgia’s 2016 Entertainer of the year.
According to the owners, Southern Brewery has been very well received in the community and the owners are looking at hosting more events to keep customers entertained while sampling the specialty craft beers. Local restaurants have been getting in on the action as well, delivering some of the local cuisine to go along with the beer.
“We have been very impressed with the local response to the opening of our Monroe Taproom. The opportunity to taste people on our wide range of beers and show them a little bit of our Southern Brewing Company culture has been amazing,” said Steven Brand, an owner of the company. “Collaborations with other breweries, local restaurants, local farms, and industry professionals are part of the core DNA of Southern Brewing Company. The Monroe Taproom has been working with LR Burger, in the past we worked with their original restaurant Local Republic in Lawrenceville on the SoLo Project. Southern and Local will continue to brew some great beer together to feature at the taproom. You can also order food from any local restaurant including Your Pie, LR Burger, Amici, South on Broad, or any other and bring it to the taproom to enjoy. The future is wide open with plans to bring in staff from local restaurants to brew exclusive Monroe beers to pour at our bar and theirs. We will continue to plan events like live music, comedy nights, and possibly trivia to keep the city entertained.”
The next event for the brewery is a line up of comedians scheduled for next week when we get to see the First Comedy Night at Southern Brewing Co. in Monroe on Wednesday, Dec. 11, beginning at 9 p.m. It will be hosted by comedian Kinsey Snell with fellow comics, Lanny Farmer, Amber Chandler, Kathleen McDonald and Connor Preston Bentley.
“Each comic will do 12-ish minutes. Kinsey will open with 10-12 mins and then emcee/intro each comic thereafter,” said Dan Flynn director of the taproom.
