SR 316 Construction: Overnight traffic pacing and lane closure begin Sept. 28

Motorists traveling SR 316 in Barrow County should expect overnight traffic impacts Sept. 28–30 as crews set beams for the new overpass at Carl-Bethlehem Road.

  • Dates: Monday, Sept. 28, through Wednesday, Sept. 30
  • Location: SR 316 at Carl-Bethlehem Road
  • Work: Setting beams for the new overpass bridge, along with material deliveries and related construction activities.

Traffic pacing on SR 316

  • Eastbound and westbound SR 316
  • Between Harry McCarty Road and Patrick Mill Road
  • 10 p.m. to 4:59 a.m. each night
  • Traffic will be paced for no more than 20 minutes at a time.
  • The pacing will be overseen by the project’s Design-Build team and local law enforcement to allow cranes and other equipment to safely move through the work zone.

Partial lane closure

  • SR 316 eastbound at Carl-Bethlehem Road
  • 8 p.m. to 5:29 a.m. Sept. 28–30
  • The eastbound left-turn lane will be partially closed as needed for beam setting, deliveries and other construction work.
  • Left-turn access will remain available, despite the partial closure.

Motorists should:

  • Expect minor delays in the construction area.
  • Reduce speed and remain alert in the work zone.
  • Watch for workers and heavy construction equipment.
  • Be aware that increased fines will be enforced in the work zone.
  • Watch for Variable Message Signs (VMS) notifying motorists of upcoming work.
  • Allow extra travel time and consider checking conditions before leaving.

Weather: Work schedules and exact times may change because of weather conditions.

Project background

  • The SR 316 at Carl-Bethlehem Road Reconstruction Project will replace the existing signalized, at-grade intersection with a grade-separated overpass bridge.
  • The project is intended to improve mobility, safety, traffic flow and crash reduction along SR 8/SR 316/US 29.
  • An approved detour of SR 316 at Carl-Bethlehem Road is also part of the project but will be implemented and announced at a later date.
