Stolen vehicle located at Gwinnett County Department of Corrections work release center

(Lawrenceville, Georgia)  Gwinnett County Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a suspect who allegedly left a stolen (cloned) vehicle at the Gwinnett County Department of Corrections work release center. Detectives from the Motor Vehicle Theft (MVT) Unit have active warrants for an inmate who brought the vehicle beyond the guard line at the Gwinnett County Department of Corrections.

Deangelo Bell, 26, of Lilburn currently has active warrants for:

• Theft by Receiving Stolen Property          OCGA 40-2-22
• Altered Serial Numbers                              OCGA 16-8-7
• Probation Violation                                      OCGA 42-8-38

According to a press release from GCPD, on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019, detectives with the Gwinnett Motor Vehicle Theft Unit were pro-actively trying to locate stolen vehicles when they found a 2018 Dodge Challenger parked at the Gwinnett County Department of Corrections work release center located at 750 Hi Hope Road in unincorporated Lawrenceville. The vehicle was parked inside the guard line of the prison. The license plate on the back of the vehicle was an Alabama Dealer tag, which reportedly is a way frequently used to conceal stolen vehicles. The VIN displayed in the windshield was altered from the original and when the officers discovered the true VIN, they learned that the vehicle was purchased from a dealership in Conyers using fraudulent information.

It is believed that Bell, the alleged driver of the vehicle, fled the scene when he saw the detectives investigating the vehicle. He is still currently on the run from these charges, and he failed to report back to the Department of Corrections.

GCPD report this is the 10^th cloned vehicle the Motor Vehicle Theft Unit has recovered so far this year.
