Structure fire in Monroe displaces two.

According to Battalion Chief Jack Armstrong, “At approximately 5:36 a.m. this morning, Monroe Fire was dispatched to a residential structure fire in the area of 127 West Marable Street.

“First arriving fire units found the home fully involved with the occupants and pets outside. Capt. Jody Carter of Monroe Fire Department said the residents were awakened by the smoke alarm sounding. They quickly grabbed their pets and escaped.

“Walton County Fire Rescue assisted with extinguishing the fire. Red Cross has been requested to assist the two occupants that lost their home.”

Armstrong continued with, “This is a strong reminder of how important smoke alarms are! Without the alarms in place, this mornings fire could have produced a deadly outcome.”

Fire units will remain on the scene with investigators to determine cause and origin of the fire.

No injuries were reported.
