A Tornado Warning for Walton, Newton and Morgan counties just before 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening, Aug. 1, 2018, took the community by surprise. By 8 p.m. however, it had blown through, leaving some damage to the Social Circle area with reports of a possible “debris signature” on Doppler radar near Social-Circle FairPlay Road and Hawkins Academy.

“WSB reported a possible “debris signature” on Doppler radar at that intersection,” said Capt. Jeff Allen of Walton County Fire Rescue. The Solar Farm is located close to that area but Allen said there have been no calls suggesting there was any damage to the solar farm. “Walton Fire, Social Circle Fire, Walton County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency EMA are in the area, checking for damage. Thus far some trees and roadways blocked but no injuries reported. Portions of Social Circle FairPlay Rd are closed so authorities can assess damage and check the area. People should refrain from ‘sight seeing’ in the area until officials have completed their work.”
Allen said WCSO is now reporting some damage to houses in the Social Circle FairPlay area.
