Suspect faces slew of charges after carjacking vehicle in Monroe Saturday

A Covington man faces a slew of charges after allegedly carjacking a vehicle from outside of John’s Supermarket in Monroe on Saturday evening. Jessie Cordavious Henderson, 27, is currently being held at the Walton County Detention Center without bond after wrecking the vehicle on Highway 11 after the incident.

According to the police report from the Monroe Police Department, just before 10 p.m. on Jan. 9, 2021, officers responded to a call from John’s Supermarket. An employee reported he had just got off work and was getting into his car when a man approached the driver’s side and sprayed him in the eyes with an unknown substance from an aerosol can. The man then jumped into the vehicle and sped off. Surveillance from the store allegedly showed the suspect first attempting to get into the only other vehicle in the parking lot, which was locked, before approaching the employee who had just cranked up his car.

While conducting the investigation at the store and undergoing a search of the area, Walton County Sheriff’s Office reported a single vehicle crash at the corner of Highway 11 and Whitney Road. The suspect was allegedly refusing to give his name, but the vehicle matched the description of the vehicle that had just been carjacked out of Monroe. The victim was taken to the accident scene to verify that the suspect was indeed the man who had carjacked him a little while earlier.

The suspect was taken to Piedmont Walton where he finally gave officers his name. (The Covington News is reporting that the suspect is the son of Newton County Commissioner J.C. Henderson). Henderson was transported to Walton County Detention Center after undergoing a couple of stitches to a laceration on his lip.

According to Jail records from Walton County Detention Center, Henderson is being held on the following felony charges.
