SWAT activity in Monroe Saturday linked to overnight drive-by shooting

City of Monroe Police Chief R.V. Watts said the SWAT team activity at Monroe Motor Inn on Saturday afternoon had possible connections to an overnight drive-by shooting that happened in the area of Claywill Circle.

In a press release, Monroe Police Department reported that the report of the drive-by came in at about 4:50 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019. At the time that shots were fired into the home, an adult and two juveniles were inside. Nobody was injured, however.

During the investigation, Kenneth Everett was named as a possible suspect and it was revealed that he had valid felony warrants for his arrest. It was believed that he was staying at the Monroe Motor Inn at 912 East Spring Street and a warrant was obtained and executed on the room where he was staying. After a couple of hours standoff, Everett was taken into custody without incident.

The incident of the drive-by shooting is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Westbrooks at 770-54-6564 or to reach out to the department over social media. Anonymous tips are accepted.
