Most read stories of 2019 – tragedies once again dominate

Every year as I compile this list, I hope that this time a lot more good news stories will make it into the top most-read stories. Sadly again this was not the case. In 2019, the top read stories for the most part highlight sad news or crime that we have reported on in our area. However, the good news for Your Local News is that the top page accessed was again the Home Page which means a growing number of people are going to Your Local News on a daily basis to get their news. For that, we are extremely grateful.

As was the case in 2017, and then again in 2018, the top most-read stories in 2019 were a reflection of the tragedies that occurred in the community. And again we had to go all the way down to 21 to get one that was not sad or bad news. Last year, that was the plans for all the new restaurants coming to downtown Monroe and in 2019, there was the news of the re-development of downtown Loganville (but some did not necessarily consider that good news). The opening of Huey Magoo’s in Loganville, however, proved to be a winner. As you can see from the links, the most-read story in 2019 was the fire truck wreck in January 2019 that seriously injured a Social Circle firefighter.

These stories were not chosen by us – they were chosen by the readers. The statistics recorded for online publications give exactly how many times a story has been read and each of the stories on this list was read by more than 10,000 people – many by more than double that. Sadly, most of them reflect tragic incidents and losses that were experienced by members of our community during 2019. We will continue to pray for healing for those who lost loved ones this year.

Our hope for the community as we close the chapter on the past year, and indeed the past decade, is that we have much more upbeat and happy news to celebrate when we get to ring in the year 2021. In the meantime, we wish all our readers a Happy, Healthy, Peaceful and Prosperous 2020.
