The Georgia Department of Transportation is advising that, weather permitting, construction partners will put in place a traffic shift on State Route 53 beginning Feb. 9. These traffic shifts will be temporary as they will change as the project is completed.
The traffic shifts are to facilitate continued work on the future compressed diamond interchange project at US 29/State Route 316 in Barrow County. The shift will allow for construction of the permanent tie ins for future ramps on the interchange. This shift will be SR 53 at US 29/SR 316 – about 4.75 miles southeast of downtown Winder.
The overall project is expected to be completed by June 2022.
Advisory: Exact dates may change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are cautioned to reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers.
