It’s that time again, another year comes to an end and we look forward with anticipation on what’s to come. And on the last day of 2024, we use this opportunity to look back on what has happened this year through the prism of headlines.
At least nationally, many of the headlines focused on politics – and this year was a doozy. But as is always the case for Your Local News, it was the more tragic stories that dominated our headlines.
Here’s this year’s list.

Strangely enough, the top story was one that wasn’t even from this year. It was the 2023 story on the man who exposed himself to a teen while using the women’s change room at a local gym. That story on Your Local News has managed to find itself read daily since then for a total of 72.633 times this year. Go figure!
Next on the list was the smoke from the Biolab chemical fire in Rockdale County that burned for days sending smoke over surrounding counties, including Walton and Gwinnett. That story dominated the headlines for several weeks and was read on Your Local News by 41,139 people. And sadly, the tragic murders of the two women in Monroe that has devastated their families in the waning days of this year also are featured high on this list.
But tomorrow is a new day and a New Year. Hopefully there will be some uplifting stories that manage to dominate our headlines next year. I prefer to remain optimistic!
Bring on 2025 – let’s see what it has in store for us!
