Barrow County, GA (February 6, 2019) – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office to investigate an officer-involved shooting that resulted in a man and a woman being shot. GBI reports that the preliminary investigation revealed that police returned fire on a suspect, hitting him and one of two female passengers in the vehicle. The male suspect was treated and released from the hospital and the female remains in the hospital for treatment.
“Preliminary information indicates that the incident took place after one of the deputies attempted to stop a black Ford F-150 pick-up truck for a traffic violation in Auburn, Georgia around 12:10 p.m. The driver of the vehicle, Casey Taylor, 31, actively fled from the deputy and a vehicle pursuit began. Several other Barrow County deputies joined the pursuit that went into Gwinnett County and back into Barrow County,” Nelly Miles, director of the office of public affairs for the GBI said in a press release. “There were two female passengers in the vehicle. At one point, a PIT maneuver was performed. During the incident, Taylor rammed one of the deputy’s vehicles. He then fired at least 10 times at the deputies while they were still in their vehicles. Deputies returned fire, striking Taylor and one of the female passengers.”
No officers were treated in this incident. Taylor was treated at a local hospital before being released into the custody of the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office. Arrest warrants are expected to be issued by the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. It will be turned over to the Barrow County District Attorney’s Office for review once it has been completed.
