When the contestants in the Miss Georgia USA and Miss Georgia Teen USA take to the stage at the Henry County Performing Arts Center in McDonough this weekend, there will be two locals in the lineup.
Miss Walton County USA 2021, Emily Thrower, will be representing Walton County in her quest to become Miss Georgia USA. The Gratis resident and 2017 Georgia Walton Academy graduate is in her final year at the University of Georgia. She won Miss Walton County USA in the first ever pageant that she entered during the pandemic. Thrower said entering a pageant in 2020 was a little different. It was done via zoom with just interviews.

“But the competition will be in person, with the evening gowns and swimsuit as well as the interviews,” Thrower said. “We will wear masks until we step onto the stage.”
Thrower will be joined in McDonough by Loganville teen Johanna Alvarado who is representing Loganville as Miss GA North Teen in her quest to win Miss Georgia Teen – USA. Alvarado is a first generation American who will be the first in her family to attend college next year. She was a guest speaker late last year at the November Loganville City Council meeting at the invite of Loganville Mayor Rey Martinez, the city’s first Hispanic Mayor.

The final competition will be Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021.Click here to watch it live
